Engine Mounts

So I've got a 2.0 litre Petrol Mk3, being used as a private Hire Taxi, doing 1000 miles/week. I've got knocking noises on the front end when going over pot holes etc, and have by now, replaced all the suspension, and passed my MOT yesterday. Fault has now been diagnosed as drivers side engine mount. The one underneath at the back of the engine has been changed, and the one on the left hand side under the battery has too.

Does anyone know if the drivers side one is hydraulic, or is there an option to upgrade to a hydraulic one - and are they any better?

A link would be good - if any one has one...thanks, Geth

Does your engine mount look like this? Usually these kind of mounts are hydraulic but even if it isn't, unless Ford have had problems with the mounts and superseded them with modified parts, you'd be very lucky to find another mount which will fit as they're bespoke for each application. For the same reason I don't know if you'll find aftermarket ones available as they're not generally fast selling or often replaced parts!

Hi insanitybeard. Yes, the engine mount does look like the one in your link. When I took my Galaxy for an MOT earlier this week, the MOT tester said that they were hydraulic. I can get one from EuroCarParts for approx Ã,£57, or off ebay 2nd hand for approx Ã,£30. Bearing in mind my Galaxy is a private hire taxi, and does 1000 miles/week, I haven't yet decided which option to go for yet - probably the new one.

No worries, yeah, for those kind of items I'd say fitting a secondhand part is a lottery, no saying how often it'll last before it goes the same way, especially if you're covering lots of miles........

Went for a new part from Euro car parts for about Ã,£60, came overnight. Easy to install, MUST Jack the engine up first to take the weight of the engine before you take the housing off. SO much better now, old one was very poor, and oily. Smooth motoring at last...
