Multi-Function Steering Wheel problem.

Hi - just joined after doing a Google search on my problem and finding an old post, starting reading through as a guest and have to say I am very impressed with the content from you guys and girls, seems a friendly place to get advice.

Anyway - my problem, I have a 2004 V6 Galaxy Ghia 52,000 miles now and in almost as new condition (yes even the alloys:)) and it has the Multi-Function Steering Wheel, about a year ago I noticed that when driving the radio station would change randomly, CD tracks would be skipped and then at night the backlit buttons on the wheel would go on and off, then the horn starts to sound at random times when driving, bit awkward when sitting in traffic!   All this points to the "clock spring" or steering angle sensor and I just want to ask if anyone else has had this problem as the part is Ã,£350 from ford and I just want to be sure before I take the plunge and order it.

Any help will be much appreciated,

Darren

Hi Darren and  welcome5
Does very much sound like that is your problem, I do believe these are very fragile units and can be easily broken.
Mirez will be along soon he's the expert on this and will advise you.

My first though would indeed by clock-spring is defective, but on the MFSW models there is also a controller that handles everything (and has been known to fail).

Given that both parts are very expensive, I would suggest you remove the clockspring and use a multimeter to test continuity on all of the wires whilst working the mechanism. (Do this OFF the car, don't try and do it in situ). That should give you a conclusive idea if its faulty or not.

Good luck and welcome!
