Ive recently noticed an oil leak on my 2000 mk2 galaxy, its coming from the cam cover, need some advise about whats needed to be done to put ir right.

manty thanks lee

Is it coming from the base of the rocker cover or from where the oil filler neck extension attaches, or from the breather pipe stub for that matter? If it's around the base where the cover seats against the cylinder head then probably the gasket (which is available as a separate item- possibly FINIS 1424577) has gone hard with age and is seeping oil slightly.

Is it possible that it's actually spilled oil from when somebody topped up/ refilled it and missed the filler neck?

not to sure whereabouts its leaking will check and get back to you, if it was the gasket any idea how much it would cost to replace?

Ã,£12 from GSF.......
Just a warning, I think one or two bolts on the rear of the cover can be a bit of a pig to get to!

thanks for the advise, Im useless with cars lol

will it be ok to drive in the meantime or should I wait until its fixed/replaced???

It depends where the oil is coming from, if it's a bit of seepage from the gasket or filler neck o-ring it should be ok to drive but if there's a hole somewhere responsible for the leakage then maybe not! Is the breather pipe at the back on the left hand side all secure and not split? Is the leakage at the front or back of the cover?

the leaks at the back of the cover, what does that mean?

Could be one of several things, is it a lot of oil? Your best bet is to wipe it off using some rag and brake cleaner as best as you can so it's clean and dry and keep an eye on it, see where it starts to reappear from and in what quantity!

Are you sure it's not dripping off the EGR valve which is above the rear of the cover.
