hi chris

right i have tryed what you have said the connections were clean but i gave them another clean and cleared code then started up again and same code comes back

The quantity adjuster is a component inside the fuel injection pump and as the name suggests alters the quantity of fuel injected, are you suffering  drive ability problems, e.g  no power, using more fuel.
Bad connections broken wiring and faulty or badly adjusted tuning boxes have been known to cause this but as you have checked this out then replacement of the injection pump may be the next move, it may be worth a trip to your local diesel injection pump repair specialist they would advise whether it could be repaired cheaper than replacing pump

Hi Keith,  The fuel temp sensor is known to fail and give incorrect fuel temp readings at times which can cause the ECU to move the adjuster outside of range - you can see this value in vagcom under measuring blocks. The Quantity Adjuster itself is just an electric motor controlled by the ECU that adjusts a choke on the pump shaft which in turn restricts or de-restricts the amount of fuel injected. Its also been known for this shaft to rust causing the choke to stick, especially on high mileage vehicles where the water drain hasn't been routinely emptied on the fuel filter.

hi

what should the temperature of the fuel be rading then so i can check

regards

On a cold engine it should start at ambient temperature and work its way steadily up, this was mine about 6 months back from cold.

hi

if i take the top off the injector pump how do i check if the shaft is not sticking and once i put it back together is there anything i need to check

how can i free the quantity adjuster then????

regards
keith

Not taken one apart before I'm afraid, just seen the numerous reports about the problem. I would assume it to be reasonably evident if its sticking - and I again, I would assume you can use 1800 wet and dry  and then a little grease to remove any surface rust and free it up.

As this was seven years ago, I think it quite likely it's either sold or sorted.
Perhaps it might be of value to check the date of the last post before added ones own two pennyworth?

Would be good to know how it planned out, I always wonder what happened in circumstances like these

I agree, pointless dragging up all these old threads. If thereââ,¬â,,¢s no update after all this time there is not going to be an update.

Ok, sorry guys, I will try and take more note of the dates on the messages in the future.

Itââ,¬â,,¢s all so interesting that it can be easy to get carried away on here with all the interesting conversations about cars!
