OK, so having read threads about poor air flow coming from the vents and steaming up window syndrome, I just fitted a new pollen filter.

The air flow is much improved but the air coming out has a pong of damp doggie.  Worse that this is that the windows are steaming up inside, really quickly and it's not coz I'm fat & sweaty  :-[ . . . . . it's when it's raining outside! honest  ;D

Tried all combos with the air circulation: recirculate, LO, heat, demist screen but I can't get rid of the mist except by winding down the windows.  There is no moisture inside on the carpets etc, rear wash-wipe joint is dry & sealed with glue & shrink tape and the scuttle drains were cleared of their non-existant debris last weekend.

Are the issues linked, do you think? and am I missing a trick?

You only need a very slight leak on a heater matrix to get the wet dog smell, does the aircon work as this helps to keep windows clear.
It's a big job to do the matrix, a radweld normally does a good fix, you got nothing to loose by trying it even if it's only till after the winter

Well, funny you should mention that  ???  The A/C doesn't get very cold at all and that didn't improve when I topped up the refrigerant in the A/C system.

Where do I put the Rad-weld? What / where is the Matrix?

I did a VAG-COM check yesterday and got the following errors:

I wonder where those codes came from LOL [HAHA] [HAHA]

Radweld goes in the coolant bottle, follow instructions on the bottle.

The matrix it's not a film it's a small heat exchanger radiator is inside the heater casing which is buried behind the facia.
Getting to it involves removing the steering column and facia then removing the heater unit then stripping it down to remove matrix.

STOP! If the A/C system isn't working then that will create a doggy smell quite easily!

I obviously differ in opinion to Chris here but personally, I hate radweld as I've seen it cause more harm then good on a number of car's. If you have old coolant then it can block vital water ways leading to (worse case scenario) head-gasket failure and overheating. Use as a last resort!

Just checked the pressure on the AC system and it's 46psi, which, according to my adapter, is considered full.

I'd think the AC wasn't working, due to the lack of cold air being generated but I don't know what the aircon fault code means.  It's not low on pressure so any help on what to check, where and how would be greatly appreciated.

If there was a leak from the Matrix, where would it be wet?

My gut feeling is that it's a smelly ac system that needs using but it ain't working . . . . catch 22 kind of thing.
