hello everyone
I have a 2005 mkII 1.9tdi 130 galaxy I have owned this car for 15 years its done 115000 miles
it has an aux heater for the coolant and a rear heater/air con unit in the N/S/R luggage compartment
i have a coolant leaks from the metal pipes that run front to rear due to corrosion. Is this a common fault, has anyone had this fault and successfully repaired it and are the pipes available to buy as a new part and if so what are the part numbers, any help much appreciated guys. thanks

I dare say with some searching around you could get some from a breaker as the model was popular across Ford, seat and vw. VW produced the car for longer than Ford sold it so chances are you could find some in good condition. They probably are still available new from VAG I would imagine but bet they don?t come cheap. As an interim measure bridge them under the bonnet where rubber hoses connect to stop the leak while you source some. Just remember to disable the aux heater

thanks for the reply . i am a bit hesitant to bridge pipes under the bonnet as the pipes go on past the aux heater to a heater/air con unit in the back.( it has front and rear air con controlled by a climate control unit ) i dont want to risk damaging that.  i am not worried about the aux heater it hasnt worked for years. i will try what you suggested and see what the prices are like. cheers

Bridging under the bonnet won?t cause any issues to the rear heater unit, the air con side will still function you just won?t have heat that?s all. Once you source pipes and put back to normal you will just fit, fill with coolant and bleed the system then get heat back

you can locate part numbers for most bits using either
https://ford.7zap.com/en/car/140/ - Ford Galaxy
https://volkswagen.7zap.com/en/rdw/sharan+syncro+4motion/sha/2005-406/ - Sharan

As said, you may get better luck with the Sharan/VAG numbers.

Where has the pipe actually failed? Would it be possible to repair using coolant rubber pipe of the right size and clamps? Might need to flare the pipe, but I think (not 100% sure) that the pipe there may be aluminimum so should be possible to flare the ends with any luck to prevent the clip being able to come off. Alternatively if its a steel pipe careful welding might work to fill the holes, depending what your looking at?

I've used this guy for replacement A/C pipes where I had issues, may be worth getting in touch to find out if hes got any pipes?

thanks for the reply brianh. the pipes initially leaked from a joint, aluminium to rubber pipe by the aux heater. this was repaired with new heater hose pushed further down the pipe. the pipes then go up behind the rear wheel arch liner where they join with rubber sections there appeared to be a slight leak there. i removed both the joints and cleaned and got a decent seal. after a couple of trips there was a slight leak, coolant on the drive , on closer inspection i found that the pipe was actually pitted and was seeping through pin holes, hence why i think replacement might be the best option
cheers

thanks for the reply johnnyroper , yes thats them , i might even price up the air con ones while im at it, they might be next, i did wonder whether to replace the coolant ones with 15mm copper pipe, get some reducers to connect to the rubber hoses etc, it would be tricky but we will see if the new ones are available first i think, thank again
