Hi everyone!!

I mainly use Triple QX 505.01 spec 5W40 in my 1.9 PD Alhamb. Oooh yeah!

Now, about this 505.01 spec. I hear that there are later specs available. Would they be better for the Alhambââ,¬â,,¢s engine?

What do you discerning Alhamb/Galaxy lovers use in your precious motors?

Also do u have any good codes for Euros other than the one they advertise on the website itself?

Over the past few years I have used long life in both my of high  mileage and elderly engines with no problems at all.The one I use is 506.01 5w30 I never run the mileage more than about 9k between changes though.I was also once told never to go over 10k on the oil filter change if I didn't want premature wear so have stuck to that.

You need to be quite careful with oil these days.  Newer is not necessarily better, for older engines.  There are many reasons for this but a prime one is zinc content.  Zinc (in various forms) is one of those components that is in oil to provide protection at startup or other stressful times for the lubrication system.  Unfortunately, it can also be a serious air pollutant, so more modern formulations of oil are designed about less or no zinc.  Nothing is added to replace it.  Instead, the engine is designed differently.  So, if you use a modern, low zinc, oil you may find accellerated wear characteristics of components such as camshafts and other highly stressed parts.  No amount of shortening the change intervals will alter this but the wear may, at first, be gradual.  Horses for courses.

That's an excellent write up Mike, thanks.There's such a lot to take in to consideration.I used to do quite a lot of miles so I got fed up of changing the oil every 4 months or so which was the main reason for changing to long life.Now times have changed since I retired and all this crap that's going on so have done less than1k in the last year.Lots to think about,I'm due a oil change soon so maybe I'll go back to the 'normal' oil.

I use Triple QX 505.01. Is that OK or is there better out there for the price?

I always use Castrol Edge 5W40 C3 in the TDI since I started doing all the maintenance myself.
