Butchered sump plug!

Went to do oil service on my 2008 galaxy 2.0 tdci duratorq. Only to be unable to remove sump plug which seemed to be pretty butchered.
Anyone know what size hex or torx this started life as?
Any tips on getting it out now?
Oh, and what size do I order for a new one?

Well, it certainly looks like the ââ,¬Å"mechanicsââ,¬Â bodged that one. I would be furious if they returned my car in that state.

Could u use a junior hacksaw you cut a little slot across it then use a flat screwdriver or piece of metal to unscrew it.

Or just leave it there and suck the oil out of the engine using an oil sucker machine, they donââ,¬â,,¢t cost much and are very handy. You can get them from Amazons.

I bet u were really mad when u saw that bodge job, I for one would have been livid.

Well, I got no idea now on the history of the plug.
Yeah, I know garages are using suckers, but are they viable for home diy'ers, just had a quick look but not sure what I'm buying.
Think I'd rather just sort this plug out.

Anyone know what size I need to buy, so I can at least a new one ready, got a feeling its m14?

Hard to tell by that picture what size the tool needed is as picture quite blurred for me. I have had seized plugs previously due to the heat a modern diesel gets to during regens etc. Plus being overtightened previously.

Best bet get engine hot and give it a few shocks with a chisel to free it, m12 or 14 at a guess but I would get a genuine from ford before chiselling it out.

Bit of a nightmare trying to identify which size thread I need, some websites showing m10, m12 or m14.
Think I need my engine code for 2009 duratorq 2.0, but where to find that?

The 2.0 normally has either the M12 or M14 depending on year. Given the flange I would suggest that's the M14 triple square that someone didn't have the tool for so used screwdrivers to batter it on/off.

Personally, I would order a new one direct from Ford as they will know the exact one needed from your VIN. I would also agree to avoid the suckers, they are a bodgers way to save a few minutes of work.

The next time I take my Alhamb to the garage I think I will demand that they extract the oil by removing the little nut instead of sucking it out! I want ALL the muck and dirty old oil out of my engine!

Itââ,¬â,,¢s a shame they donââ,¬â,,¢t make a little lockable tap and mount it somewhere easily accessible so that the average DIY person can service their car properly without having to get underneath it which is a bit of a hassle tbh.

If they did something like that it introduces risk as it would need some pipework plus to not have to get under it would end up being higher than sump plug so you would be in same boat as using a suction tool.
It could be a lot worse on my beemer I have to drive on to blocks of wood to get it high enough to get the jack under centre jack point. At least with the galaxy itââ,¬â,,¢s easier to get underneath to drain oil.

@johnnyroper, you can always bring it here and use my ramp mate ;)

A ramp what a nice luxury to have I could well take you up on that offer one day,I fear a clutch and timing chain will be required on my latest one at some point.

You can actually buy a tap to replace your sump plug.
You then have to worry about maintaining the tap under the car, who can access it, it getting knocked as it sticks out more, etc.

It would be nice if they could mount a little drainage tap somewhere convenient at the front of the engine and put a little lock on it to prevent vandals from draining all ur oil out, maybe a little flap over it like they do with the fuel filler hole perhaps

Some of the older trains I worked on with Cummins Diesel engines have drain taps, they can and do get smacked off. Not so much of an issue as engine will shut down if oil pressure goes below 18 psi. On a car thereââ,¬â,,¢s a very real risk of totalling engine with something like that. By time engine light on its usually too late. Sump plug all day long for me
