Building a camper van

As the galaxy will be here to stay I'm thinking of turning it into a camper van.
Any nice examples would be great.

This year I'll keep it simple. See if my girlfriend likes this way of vacation.
If successful I'll go for a bigger conversion.

For now I'll build a 2 person bed that can turn into a couch in the back.

Later I'd like to change my seats (I have the leather ones with heating and vision screens in the headrests) into swivel seats. A folding table that moves down and, together with the back, turns into a bed. But that's later.

My wishlist is simple. Room for 2. I need to be able to remove everything easily as I want to use it normally rest of the year and convert when I want to go away for a while.

First question: (I searched) has anybody a topic explaining if, and how, I can turn my seats into swivel seats? So just the underside would change and the seats itself will stay in the car.

I'll keep you guys posted as the project develops. Hoping to build something nice.

Not sure if your aware, but some of the front seats (the Ghia spec ones in mine being one example) do have a captain swivel action. It may be possible to transplant them across, but might be easier to find a set of seats that already have the swivel action built in.

I don't know if you can combine that action with the screens in the headrest though?

Yes. I know. I even found a set for sale on internet. Going for cheap.

But I have the leather with seat heating and screens. That combo including swivel will be impossible to find. Actually. If I recall right it was never made with the vision set. This because of the big middle console that was put in for this.
As such I need to find a solution for this when building in swivel chairs.

So I want to put the lower part of the swivel chairs onto my current chairs. Hoping that will work...

If you can find a way of allowing the wires to pass without being effected by the swivel action then you might be able to do something. I'd suspect thats why the combination doesn't exist from the factory. I've not seen one to tell you for sure though.

You can change the bases on your existing front seats, I did it in my sharran, it takes about an hour for each seat and you don't need any special tools just Spanners, a socket set and pliers if I remember correctly, There is a hole in the centre of the swivel base for any wires to go through and the seats only swivel 180 degrees.

just take it slow when you dismantle the seat as there are a few clips which can break off but you can get new ones for a few pence off ebay. and you can either cut through the old seat trim for the swivel handle which is what I did or you can try and find some proper trims to make it look neater.

Guy's. Thanks a lot. The chairs will have to wait till next year. For now I'll do without. But good to know it's possible. Thanks for the complete explanation.

As for the make up. This is an easy design. But no storage space at all.
That's to far for me.
I've already made a design. Now just a matter of building it.
It will have a couch which turns into a full bed. But with pillows like in the average mobile home.

I hope to be able to send you guys pictures of it in a month or so when it is completed and ready for the holidays.
