Hello all

Any reason while walking round the car this morning that my back right brake pads would only be contacting only half of the visible disk? the disk on the back right is rusty on the outer half but clean on the inner half - any suggestions? Replaced all discs and pads last month so have had time to bed in and all others seem to be "clean" from rusty deposits meaning the contact is good across all other wheel surfaces.

No damage caused yet but obviously if this continues then  will have uneven marking on the disk.

Thanks in advance and be good to hear your thoughts,

Were the sliding pins free in the caliper bracket, and the lug on the inner pad correctly aligned with the cutouts in the piston

I'll haver a look at this chris - thanks for your reply - as far as i'm aware the pins were free and the pads were located correctly but may have to strip it all back again and check - i obviously installed the other ones correctly so must have missed something - even had the calipers sand blasted to remove the rubbish and look where its got me!

Will keep you posted.

also see if the pads are free to move in the caliper---I fixed a set that a main dealer had fitted, they had beaten the shit out of both nearside pads to get them into the caliper !!  needless to say they also didn't touch properly.  scrape all crap off the caliper where the pad sits and put some copperslip along the sides of the pads were they rest on the caliper.

I've had lots of problems with the rear calipers jamming on due to the handbrake cable binding and the caliper lever mechanism sticking. The crap gets into the handbrake shaft seal and O rings meaning a caliper rebuild or replace. Check the cables also run free and easy too especially on hanbrake release. If sandblasted then did you take out the handbrake shaft otherwise sand may have gone into the seals?
The Lucas 38 caliper is used on lots of cars and if they bind the tend to stick on which then overheats the pads and caliper. I've rebuilt several calipers recently. As mentioned the slider pins also need to be free and greased along with the pad contact points with the caliper and frames. Sounds like the pads may not be square with the disc so check everthing is fitted sqare?
