hi there i just bin to the garage to have my air con filled  up and they said it wood not work i have a big hole in it  they said its coming from the front of the car and said it was the condenser do u have any ider thanks they wood not put die in it they said it wood just blow it all out but i said i no were the hole is then but they wood not so help pls

Does your aircon control dash, flash when you turn the car on?
Jack the car up, remove the undertray and see if there are any broken pipes and look under the bonnet at the silver pipes that come from the drivers side towards the front of the car.

A common leak is actually the from drier cartridge which is fitted into the condenser.  I believe this is also called the receiver by some.

Have a look at this thread which has pictures from when my air con was being repaired.

In the last picture of Reply #11 the big "radiator" is the air con condenser the black tube on the left of this in this shot is where the drier cartridge fits.  There is a plastic cap on the top of this and under this is another cap that actually holds in the drier and has seals around it.  This is often corroded and leaks around this.  Unfortunately this can make the cap impossible to remove and require that the whole condenser replacing.  I was lucky and mine had been greased and it was possible to replace the drier once the repairs had been carried out.  This was the first Galaxy/Sharan/Alhambra drier that the specialist had been able to remove so I got the drier cheaper as he had stored it for some time since he bought it.

To get to the condenser/dryer and associated pipework you need to remove the bumper and grill

The bumper cover includes the grill on MKII's.  It's actually quite easy and helps you get at a lot more stuff.  The external temperature sensor isn't attached to the Bumper cover in my 05 (see the link in my previous post for details of it's actual location).  You will only have to disconnect wiring for front fogs and front parking sensors if these are fitted.

if you cannot find the leak..the best is follow the piping from compressor and look for mark of oil,if you see oil in the fitting mostly that is the leak.most leak are in highside,from discharge of compressor to condenser to receiver then before expansion valve.some are in seal of compressor.if your system has gas just use soap to find it,before im using nitrogen for leak test.if realy u cannot find it the last is in evaporator,it get crack in vibration.

hi i have not taken all the bumper off yet looks like a job thats going to take time and sill dont no if i can find i was told it must be a big hole it wood not hold gas at all the ac did not even work for 1 min so i have to sort it soon i use it more this time of year then summer thanks for your help

Best to get a reputable mobile specialist out to look at it then.  That's what I did in the end. They will pressurise with dry nitrogen and be able to 'sniff' for the leak with a sensor.

Removing the bumper cover is not as bad as it looks.  I put it off for ages and have now done it a couple of times since.  Three or four torx or hex screws into the front wing in each wheel arch, one through the each plastic wheel arch liner, four screws across the top visible when you lift the bonnet up and three (I think) plastic clips underneath across the front into the under tray - these can be awkward if not done for some time as you need to push the centre through before pulling them out and retrieve it later.  It should then pull forward and allow you to disconnect the plugs from front fogs and/or front parking sensors if fitted - actually that might be harder!
