hi there im having random non starting problems on my ford galaxy 1.9tdi year 2000. I could go to it now and it would start go to the shop go back to it and it wouldnt then it may take to minutes or an hour to start again. It may do this 4 times in one day then not at all for 2 weeks. Ive had a new crank arm sensor fitted and it was ok for a week and a button fitted to start it as they thouht it was the ignition barrel that lasted 3 week. It has had a few diagnostic tests and sometimes comes up with a fuel cut off fault but not all the time. Any ideas very frustrating >:(

Hello  [W4] to the forum.

Common cause for random non starting issues is a faulty 109 relay it's the power relay for engine ECU and fuel supply, no specific fault code will be registered for the relay but usually causes the door LED to flash frantically, have a read of the links below they will help you locate the relay.
This relay does suffer with bad solder joints and can usually be successfully repaired but a new relay is not mega expensive

ok do you think i should get the glow plugs tested 1st and if they ok would it be easier just to put a new relay in

is 109 a part number or a place number

Glow plugs wont effect starting yet it's not cold enough.

The VW part number is 1J 0906381A and will be cheaper there, if you look in your ford handbook relay 109 is in position R22.
The large number on the relay denotes the type and is used throughout the VAG range.
