p1340 problem

just used vcds lite on my galaxy and keep getting 1 code recurring after clearing, can anybody help???

It could simply be that the sensor is defective. But it could also mean that the timing is adrift and the engine management is seeing a mismatch between the reference points with the crankshaft and camshaft position sensors, which could possibly occur if the timing had started to drift out e.g if your timing chain had stretched as per your other thread ............

yes I know, but was reading codes with a autodata scanner and didn't give much help, used vcds and came up with 10 codes which must not have been fully cleared beforehand, cleared all codes with no recurrence except for the p1340 code, could it be a dodgy aftermarket sensor?, I've got no chain clatter at all either from cold or hot

Also to add wouldn't the both cam sensors and crank sensor register a fault, just a thought!!

Sorry couldn't read blocks as ive only got the lite version and you need the full vcds version sorry

I don't know how the system works but not necessarily, the crankshaft position is fixed and can't change but with chain wear the camshaft position can vary in relation to the crank in the same way that it can alter over the lifespan of a timing belt on belt driven engines.

Was the same fault code present before you replaced the sensor?

It was, so was crank sensor, but registering as intermittent saying short to ground that's why I thought it might be wiring or ecu fault

It's entirely possible it could be a wiring or ECU issue but such faults are never easy to diagnose- you need wiring diagrams and pinpoint tests to do it properly, a chaffed wiring loom in an awkward to access place is a potential nightmare for the faults it could cause and how difficult it could be to locate. If it's an intermittent fault (i.e because something moves or flexes) then it's even worse. If the sensor itself was dodgy it could possibly throw up that code that you've got but the replacement sensor you fitted would have to be poor quality to give the same fault as the original one you replaced.
