My 1999 1886cc tdi has not played up on starting since last winter , but now it's getting colder it has to heat up much longer
And then is sluggish to turn over and fire up .
Once warmed up  the car will heat and start in 2 seconds !

I may need to renew the glow plugs , what engine type / code  ? ( can't see any info under the bonnet )

Ps does this with a charged battery.

Quite often the engine code will be on your V5 registration document, or if you looked up your registration on Ford ETIS it'll probably say as well...... The older type non PD diesel engine fitted to your Galaxy (I assume yours isn't a PD) is more reliant on the glow plugs for starting than the PD is.

Hi ,should read 1896cc
Yes it's not a pd .
Couldn't find anything on ETIS or LOG BOOK

The V5 must have an engine output power (and possibly torque as well) stated on it? It should be possible to work it out from that as the Ford databook (which has a few errors admittedly) only lists 2 engine codes for the non-PD diesel unit as fitted to the Mk1 Galaxy, each with a different power output, therefore if you have that information you should be able to work it out- engine code 1Z for the 90hp version and AFN* for the 110hp version (*-there is a note on that scanned databook page stating that that engine code was revised for vehicles built after Sept '99).

Here is the v5

Great...... it's got a box for it but it's blank! If you crunch your info into ETIS will it give you a power output?

No it doesn't !

Has the fact that it's a Zetec anything to do with it ?

I wouldn't have thought so. If all else fails, perhaps if you took a visit to a local Ford parts department and got them to look up the glow plugs for the vehicle their vehicle information might give a power output?

Not that I'd trust it 100% but the parts diagrams here only list 1 part number for the glow plug on a pre-PD TDI, and that's Ford part number 1037204.

My MK1 was a 1.9L Diesel P as on the ETIS site and that was the AFN 110ps engine.

With VCDS lite (full version) need a code clearing or want to scan for faults in the north kent area, PM me. All for a pint of Strongbow.

Although you are right on the cross-over the Mk1 only had the AFN engine and not the PD variants. You could post a pic of the engine here if you want confirmation though.

A charged battery isn't an indication of a good battery though, how old is it?
