Galaxy to Sharan engine compatibility

Can I put my 05 TDDI 130 BHP engine into VW Sharan 06 plate ( 07 model ) ?

They are essentially the same car so it will drop straight in, if it is different horse power to the sharan then ecu etc will need swapping also.

As above, as long as the engine codes are the same then there should be no issues doing a straight swap. If the engine code is different then the ECU will also need swapping, If the Sharan is a petrol model obviously a lot more work will be required! Also, the intercooler and fan setup differs between the 90/115ps TDI models and the 130/150ps TDI models which means some of the plumbing will differ also, so bear that in mind if you're swapping TDI engines of different power outputs.

Thanks for replying Paul. The engine codes appear different and my galaxy being 130 with the Sharan a 115 it seems the plumbing problems will come into play: Could you be a little more specific with reguards  to "plumbing"... is it still possible to complete the exchange ? Any advice would be very much appreciated and thanks again for taking the time to reply.

Thanks for taking time to reply: was wondering if you could expand on changing ecu etc. Thanks again, any input is much appreciated.

Plumbing wise the 115 has an EGR cooler but 130 does not I believe so that pipe work will need sorting out. The radiator may be different as fans are different one has 2 fans the other has one fan.

The boost pipes in 130 are also bigger than 115.

If you have a donor vehicle with the engine in it would be easier to swap the whole lot over engine, hoses, rads etc.

The ecu for engine controls fuelling etc so one of them is programmed for 115bhp the other will be for 130 so the internal maps will be different. It's a simple change over and if you are removing engine with wiring on you need to unplug it from ecu anyway.

You are going to run into immobiliser problems with this. The Galaxy uses Fords PATS system and the Sharan uses VWs IMMO system. The two are not compatible in the slightest and you cant just swap boxes as they are coded and wired differently.
IMMO is built into the instrument cluster, PATS is a seperate module bolted to the bulkhead and both 'talk' to the ECU in different languages so popping the VW ECU in the Ford simply wont work.
The easiest solution will be to source a true Ford 115 ECU and chipset
03 Ford Galaxy 1.9 TDI 115 Ghia in Spruce Green Metallic
With cream leather interior, Full Bodykit, Remapped at 145bhp, Lowered on 18's
17 Volkswagen Touareg 3.0 V6 Diesel in Slate Blue
262Bhp AWD and Factory fresh...for now!
58 Ford Transit 2.2 TDI 115 in Frozen White
With retrofitted everything except another slidey door! :)

Good point, I hadn't thought about the different immobiliser implementation on the Sharan. Ref. the EGR coolers, I believe they are fitted to all TDI models except the lowest powered 90ps version. The 130 and 150ps TDI's have a larger but slimmer intercooler mounted in front of the radiator whereas the 90/115ps versions have a smaller but thicker unit mounted lower down below the rad, with correspondingly different pipework. I believe the radiators themselves are also different, with pipe inlets/outlets in different places, and also the fan is different with a twin fan setup on the lower powered TDI's but a single fan on the 130/150's. The turbos are different as well, with a different style of outlet on the compressor wheel housing of the 130/150 models.
