I often see references to using vcds/ vagcom. Getting it to work is fairly well covered on here as it what lead do I need
There is a bit from Mirez covering adaptations.

Was thinking more along the lines of egr valve adjustment and cam timing, things like that
A " how to" for this sort of trickery would be useful in ref libary,unless of course its there and Ive not seen it.

I only use mine to scan for codes at the moment.

Cam / injector timing was added to the reference library yesterday! See here......

There was one for checking turbo actuator operation here as well in case you've not seen it, don't think EGR has been covered yet though.
