Mk2 Ghia Car Alarm

Hi All,

I wonder if anyone can help? I tried a search but it doesn't seem to be a topic.

The alarm beginning to cause me a headache and is a new issue that has developed in the last week or so.
Nothings been changed recently except a little oil top up.

What happens is the alarm will out of the blue just go off. This annoyingly happened at 10PM and 4am and i'm now having to take my keys to bed as the alarms is stupidly loud.

All doors, windows, bonnet and fuel cap are properly closed. All door sensors appear to be in working order and not sticking. Each time you open a door it registers its open on the dash.

Is it possible to turn off the alarm on the Mk2's? Or is there a way to lock the car without setting the alarm?
I dont have full VCDS, however i do have VCDS lite and a scan brings up no errors accept the issue where i have no AC compressor.

I checked my insurance docs and they have only taken in account there is a immobilize on the car not an alarm.
However, I'd ideally like to disable to motion sensors within the car.

There is usually a button you can press to disable the motion sensor.

You press it before locking the car,not got mine with me but I think it's on the sensor panel in the middle?

Had old 206 that had faulty sensor so I just unplugged them might be able to do that on Galaxy aswell?

I dont seem to have any buttons to do this.

My Mk4 golf certainly had this button on the drivers side center panel (between doors). I ideally dont want to disable the alarm all the time, primarily when im at home and at work (in the summer)

I read somewhere you can lock the car via the boot and it doesnt set the alarm, but this does unfortunately.

It strange as there is no consitancy to it. It can happen if the car has been driven recently or even if its been left a few days.
Im sure next door wont be happy if it keeps happening.

To my knowledge the Mk2 Gal has no internal button which allows the motion sensors to be disabled. However, it is possible to lock the vehicle without activating the alarm- I can't add the link from my phone but if you type 'locking without alarm' into the site search it should come up.

I found on another forum that you can double click the lock button two time and this will lock the car but not set the alarm and deadlock.

Anyone now if this is correct?
Also whats the best way to test if the sensors are off?

I did think about pulling the fuse however there is more than one thing connected to that fuse.

No, it didn't come up.....  Try 'windows open alarm on', the thread should come up in the search then!

Your previous post is basically correct, a double press of the lock button on the remote fob or double turn of the key in the door lock (in the lock direction) will lock without alarm setting, confirmation that the alarm hasn't been set is that the door LED doesn't start to flash until about 10-15 seconds after locking, if the alarm sets it flashes immediately after locking.

Key in the drivers door lock .............. Turn the key to lock position then return to central position, then turn to lock position again, this will lock the car but won't enable deadlocking or the alarm. I think you have to do the 2 turns within 2 seconds. The light in the drivers door will go off but the car will be locked. (Pasted from another site thanks to the original poster)

The only sutle difference is that my LED does not flash when the alarm is not set. You can also unlock the door from within the car as the deadlock is not set.

I did check for a button like my mk4 golf, however there didnt appear to be one that stood out.
Anyways this is quite simple. Just got to rememeber to check if the LED is flashing before bed

Its worth checking that seatbelts are fully retracted if not turning ultrasonics off. They can ping back and will set alarm off
Also look for creepycrawley things living behind the sensor grills 😀

Seat belts in the front are always retracted.

The rear seatbelt are fixed in place with the carseat.

I do have a family of spiders living throughout the car
No matter how many times i get rid of them there soon back.
Sort of got use to them now

I realise that this sounds a bit mad, but it works! Keep a couple of conkers in the car, evidently spiders don't like the smell. Replace every year at conker time! Better than getting John Goodmanham front Arachnophobia film in😅😅😅

Hi, dont worry about the drivers door led not flashing when you double lock the drivers door, mine doesn't either and I'm pretty sure this is normal. I'm also pretty sure it's up to 5 sec's to double lock so as not to set alarm. A few years ago my Galaxy went through a stage where the alarm kept going off, never did find out why. The good news is it doesnt last forever. you'll probably find its fine again in a couple of weeks.
