Hi,

1.9TDI Alhambra, 130bhp.

Went for a 50 mile round trip, no problems. The next day I drove for a mile then the coolant warning went off. Checked and it needed 2 litres to fill it up, coolant bottle was totally empty.
Are these known for HG failure? No obvious leaks anywhere, no pressurising, no oil/water mix.
What to check first, are there any known leak points?
Thanks for any help.

It's not uncommon for pd engine to suffer HG failure. Is there any staining on expansion bottle like it has come out of overflow?
Has yours got an egr cooler fitted?

If nothing obvious like coolant staining anywhere and no pressurising then I would suggest a coolant pressure test first and go from there.

Hi similar thing happened to my Alhambra,  I replaced the expansion tank cap, now all good ( check the O ring inside of cap)

Thanks,
Think I've found it! Tiny split on a pipe from additional water pump, found some signs of coolant on top of gearbox, couldn't see till I took the battery tray and fuel filter out. Tried to replace with generic heater hose but too many bends in it to do this.
Ordered at dealer, Ã,£30. Hopefully will arrive tomorrow.
