Morning all

I have a 2002 2.3zetec galaxy, the rear wiper is a bit stop/start/intermittant/jerky I expect this is a wiring issue in the gaitor from body to boot lid, but firstly there is one either side, which side do I need to look? Also, is it just a case of get a driver under the gaitor to remove it?

I have looked in reference but only found info about door wiring not boot!

Cheers,

Steve.

One of the gaiters on the tailgate is for the wiring, the other for the washer pipe- IIRC the washer pipe comes in through the nearside one and the wiring the offside. I think the gaiters are probably clipped into place and retained by plastic lugs so some careful levering should release them but to access the wiring properly for inspection and repair you'll probably need to release some of the wiring multiplugs so that you can pull the wiring out of the tailgate and body- I'm not sure where the connectors are or which the best ones to remove are however- perhaps somebody else here can help.
Always learning..... Often by mistakes!

Ty, found some damage in the offside gaitor which fixed the issue, all I have done is taped it for now, no breaks in the cooper just the insulation shorting out. Need some heat shrink tube to sort it properly and some wire. If I'm only piecing bits in how necessary is it to use the right color and gauge? Iv got some wire which is a bit thicker but it's black, the wire I'm replacing is red/yellow.

Also, on the. Haynes wiring diagrams does it show what guage the wire is?

Cheers for the reply and thanks for all advice :-)

Hi Steve,

The colour is irrelevant (thats just for identification) but the gauge is much more important. You can go higher but not lower, ie the cable must be as thick or thicker then the original. I believe the Haynes diagrams to quote the size in mm2

03 Ford Galaxy 1.9 TDI 115 Ghia in Spruce Green Metallic
With cream leather interior, Full Bodykit, Remapped at 145bhp, Lowered on 18's
17 Volkswagen Touareg 3.0 V6 Diesel in Slate Blue
262Bhp AWD and Factory fresh...for now!
58 Ford Transit 2.2 TDI 115 in Frozen White
With retrofitted everything except another slidey door! :)
LAUNCH X431 Pad PRO - Scanning & Coding for all makes and models done in Wiltshire in exchange for winegums! :)

Thank you mirez that's what I was hoping to hear! The wire I have is a touch thicker than the thickest that will need repairing and I have ordered some heat shrink tubing, just need to find time and figure how to remove the loom - all I done was pull back the gaitor.

I'm sure my black tape will hold for a couple weeks.
