Hi all I have been reading lots of articals. About dmf's And I was wandering which one is on my car and do I need a dmf. My engine has done 138880 and to my knowledge has never had a new clutch. Is there any signs that I need to be looking out for? Every now and again I have a faint smell which I know is from the clutch but I also know that it's my fault when I happens 😚 the pedal raises quiet high but pick up is fairly normal and when you squeeze the trigger there is no lull and slip feels ok so should I be thinking about changing it.

I believe all the MK2 manual diesels have DMF's. I'd say if it ain't broke don't fix it.

As said but if it does deteriorate and start slipping it's also best to change the DMF at the same time as the clutch.

With VCDS lite (full version) need a code clearing or want to scan for faults in the north kent area, PM me. All for a pint of Strongbow.

If the gearbox is coming off your better renewing the whole thing it a bit of a job to take it off not cheap either.

Is there not an alternative clutch you can get now what is it a solid flywheel as opposed to dmf?

You may regret changing to a solid flywheel, stick with a DMF unless you want a harsh drive.

I have just had mine changed from a DMF to a Valeo solid flywheel conversion kit.

My clutch pedal now feels more like stock as it was heavy before.
I do not notice any difference in engine noise.
I have no problem with the gear change.
The only issue that I am aware with is their is more noise from the transmission especially in first and second gear when the windows are let down.

I was thinking of putting in some molyslip with a fresh change of oil as long as it would make it harder to get into gear.

Thank you for all the replies. I don't intend on changing it just yet but we're thinking of getting a caravan and was wondering if the DMF would cause me any trouble. Also I wasn't sure if it had a solid flywheel or a DMF. Read lots of stories about overheating the dmf. I like to think I'm easy on the clutch so should last for a few. more miles yet
