Hi All,

First timer, so be gentle with me.
I have a Mk2 2003 that does the following, when the lights are turned OFF and the break pedal is pressed the break lights work as they should but when the lights are turned ON, the break lights inc. high LED strip lights come on and stay on. If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it. I did check all the bulb's for correct type and the break pedal switch all OK.

Also this is my first Ford and although it hasn't let me down in a major way (fingers, legs and eyes crossed) but the amount of little problems Aux heater, central lock, heater fan to name but a few faults I've had with it has left me thinking of never getting another Ford again, but we are a family of seven and the space is great. But looking down the road what will the next car be and although I've mentioned I've had/have some issues with the Galaxy, My eye is drawn to the S-Max. Are they any better or worse than the Galaxy?

Many thanks.

P.S. - Remember be gentle

Sounds like you have shorted wiring. Check the wiring in the rubber gaiter at the tailgate (right side).
I own a MK1 1999 2.3 DOHC Ghia & 2003 1.9TDI Trend.

First of all  welcome5

I certainly sounds like the wiring through the rubber gaiter to the rear door is the problem with breaking wires due to the constant opening closing of the tailgate, it also happens with driver and passenger doors, very common fault.
The best fix is to cut out the bad wiring and solder in new wires and seal with heat shrink.

As to comparing MK1 and MK2 to the S-Max and Mk3.

The Mk1 & 2 Galaxy is basically VW only the 2.0 and 2.3 petrol engines are Fords, the V6 and the diesels are VW as are the electrical systems in the car.

The Mk3 and S-Max is entirly Ford and has no connection with the earlier mk's
The Mk3 is not without it's faults and does have some good points like the fold flat seat system amd the powershift gearbox option.

There's lots of posts discussing good and bad points on here

i concur about the wiring issues,
i sometimes regret ever selling my mk2 galaxy.what you have to remember your kids wont get any smaller and the seats in the back of the smax are really for kids,i personally wouldnt want to go on a long journey in them.but the smax doesnt drive like a mpv and does look a tad better  ;D

Hi Doyleerie,
It doesn't sound like you realise your ford is actually a VW. The galaxy, the sharan and Alhambra were all made in same factory. Ford went on their own in 2006 with the mk3 galaxy.

Thanks All for your replies & comments.
I will get around to it this weekend and let you know how I get on.

Also thanks for the history behind the Mk2, I did know that there is a few different manufactures with basically car but didn't know who did what or made what. Unfortunately I'm not in a position to get a new car so I have to keep this for a while longer. And as I did say it hasn't let me down in a major way, its just the little things are very annoying.

Regards
Doyleerire
