unusual  query.

anyone know approx weight
of a 115 vw diesel engine

presumably with bolt ons

Purely a semi-educated guess on my part, do you mean just the engine block or transmission as well? I reckon the engine block alone with manifolds would have to be at least 150-200 kilos.
Always learning..... Often by mistakes!

Good guess :) Its listed as 158Kg dry weight... but err why?

* dry weight is the engine fully assembled without fluids or gearbox

Trying to design a prototype
diesel engine aircraft.
I think it will be too heavy for
the job.
we used the beetle engine on
our taylor monoplane
but I hve lost touch with that scene

Its gonna be quite big if you put a PD engine in it, much less power (50hp or thereabouts I believe) but what about the Mercedes Diesel from a Smart?

i have suggested that one.

also googled tdi and it has been used already
last two or three  years seems to have started a trend usa is complaining about fuel costs
on petrol and lack of 100 qctane fuel

put in aviation diesels if yo are interested
even cesna is trying it/ $100,000 an engine!!!
