heater removal

Hi,
I want to remove my heater but can't work out how to remove the trim (and indeed how much I have to remove), does anyone have any idea please, thanks.

Do you mean the climate control panel? No worries if you've worked it out but the outside part of the panel is actually a separate bezel which can be levered off (preferably with a non marking thin plastic trim tool- I actually used a rounded end steel ruler as it was both very thin and flat and had no sharp edges to scratch anything).

I did mean that yes & thank you. I did actually do a couple of searches for it before I posted it but couldn't find anything!!

Perhaps someone can advise me?  I couldn't control the rear temperature completely and was quoted well over Ã,£700 for a new unit. Luckily I bought a used one. Having just swapped them back over I see they operate exactly the same!! Either I have 2 faulty units with the exact same problem or that's how they are actually meant to be. (ie the rear temperature can only be controlled between 18 and 20 on it's own or completely (lo to hi) using the front temperature controls)
So, have I two faulty units, 2 working units or a problem with my electrics?

From your description it sounds like you may be thinking your heater system can do something it actually can't, the front and rear heaters and air conditioning (rear air con is not fitted to all Galaxies) are not completely independant of eachother because they both run off of the same basic heating/ air conditioning circuits. Depending on whether your Galaxy has rear air con (i.e, does your Galaxy have air vents in the roof lining over the rear seat rows?) affects how much you can alter the front/rear temperatures relative to eachother, if your Galaxy only has front air con you cannot set the rear temperature any lower than the front temperature and only a maximum of 3 degrees C higher than the front (according to my owner's handbook), even if it does have rear air-con you can only alter it to a limited degree, the owner's handbook explains this to some extent.

Thank you, I think you've hit the nail on the head!! My own stupidity for thinking it was broken in the first place but to be fair, you would have thought the Ford garage would have said the same as you and pointed out there was nothing actually wrong in the first instance.
Oh well, perhaps something for "The Market Place" or eBay?!!

To be honest, quite often I think the garages themselves don't actually know or can't be bothered to take the trouble to find out, the older Galaxies tended to be a bit of an oddball for somebody used to working on Fords because of the mostly VW tech used in them. Without experienced staff I imagine a lot of dealers/garages fall into the same trap, or the staff just don't care!

Or if you're being really cynical they saw a chance to make a few extra quid out of you!

It's much the same with the MK3 a max of 3 degs difference between front and rear temperatures.

I didn't explain myself very well here, it was more of a general comment regarding the MK1 & 2 Galaxies rather than specific to the climate control, in the garage I was working in back in the day most of the Ford mechanics hated being given Galaxies to work on, some of the gripes were justified, such as the pollen filter changes on services but mostly I think it was unfamiliarity, especially if you were just used to working on Fords.
