Title: Enabling Miles to Empty feature
Post by: phrozen9999 on November 10, 2013, 04:38:31 PM
Hi everyone hope you can advise me...

I want to enable the Miles To Empty feature on my Petrol MK2 Galaxy 02 plate 2.3 Zetec.

I know you need a VAG-TACHO cable and the software to do this and I also know which address to edit to enable the change etc.

My question is that looking at my display (picture attached) is this possible on my model?  I have never seen anything displayed or light up in the bottom half of the the black rectangular display between the rev counter and mph counter.   As you can see the open door symbol etc work ok in the top half.

Many thanks for your time!

Unfortunatly, thats a non MFD/FIS cluster and there is no screen so it cant be enabled. You'll have to swap the cluster (which is fairly easy) to enable it.

Hi Mirez

You say the cluster swap is an easy one - where do I get one from, how much would you reckon it would be? and which version do I need to enable the MTE feature please?  :)

Just looking in with interest here does the zetec model have the extra buttons on the stalk for operating the display

Chris, I had the Tdi zetec on a Y 2001 and there were no controls on the stalk to flick through the display.
It just showed engine miles and miles covered per tank (manual reset at fill up)

Ahhh.. if there is no stalk fitted then you'll need to add that and wire it up as well. It's still far from a difficult challenge but you'll need to have some electrical experience.

If you did go down the road, ebay or a breakers would be best and I wouldn't pay more then Ã,£30. (+Ã,£10/Ã,£15 for the stalk) - make sure you get one from a car of very similar year and also with the exact same engine and gearbox (ie, 2.3 manual).  You need a half-fis or full-fis version, you can tell the difference by looking for an led screen in the lower half of the centre panel (instead of the matt black colour) or the whole thing being and LED panel for full fis.

Full FIS: (ignore the yellow box as its from another topic, but you see the whole panel is an LED screen with no icons. A half-fis display is just the lower section like that but with the icons above (like you currently have)

Thanks very much guys for the info.  Now I know what I need if I want to do this.

BTW the Zetec does not have any extra controls on the wheel (just the horn either side).  And no extra controls on the stalks for this kinda thing.
