Title: Is there a difference between Driving and full beam H7 Bulbs?
Post by: Fraz-ktf on October 16, 2013, 09:58:45 PM
Looking for some ultra bright Full Beam H7 bulbs and whilst I thought an H7 was an H7, Fleabay has got me doubting myself.

some sellers say Driving / low and some say Main / Low and some just say Low (And to make me more paranoid, they even list for different cars!  :-[ )

Please confirm that an H7 is an H7 someone, before I have a migraine  >:( :o

H7 is a H7, they are used in different applications (ie fog, main, driving) but its still the self same lamp body/connector.

I've seen some 4100K 100W H7's that claim to be ok with plastic lenses and no wiring upgrade needed.  Would these be ok, even though you said beware of 100W coz of the plastic?

Is 4100k a brighter light than 5000k or is the 5000k more "Blue tinted"?

Of course you know 100 watt bulbs are for off road use plus the wiring is not strong enough there is also no relay so extra current through switch and also bulb failure system.

55W will  draw 4.6Amps at 12V
100W will draw 8.3Amps at 12V
That isn't going to change whatever the listing says. I wouldn't risk it myself.

Yes, I know they are for Off Road (I'll only install them when I'm either on private land or off-roading, Your Honour  ;)

They claim that there is "No wire upgrade needed" as they run at the same power use as the stock bulbs but I have emailed the supplier for a written warranty against any issues and if not received, I shall cancel them.

Thanks for the advice, man

It's irrelevant what they claim, as pointed out 100W is drawing significantly more current and there is no physical way they can say you don't need to upgrade the wiring. Either they draw more current or not, if not then they can't be more then 55w by the law of physics!
