Post by: spanish on October 07, 2013, 08:03:10 PM
Hi all, second post just joined, HELLO, just wondering what your thoughts are to changing out the supplied radio (it is badgered)for a ford navigation system Model No 7 612 001 040 ? will it fit? if so, will it work well? any one got a nav system in a 05 model and what problems do you have with it?
Or anyone give me other solutions?
cheers in advance

The ford system is actually a re-branded VW MFD1. It has some pro's and con's and will fit without that much hassle.

You'll need to replace the centre fascia for the double DIN version (about Ã,£40 new), get a VW to ISO wiring adaptor and that's enough to get it all up and running. Later you can swap the changer and cable for a VW version and retrofit the full FIS instrument cluster to get the navigation instructions on up the dash.

It's best features are the fact its fully integrated, can display nav details on the cluster and has that factory look. It's still supported with new nav cd's too!
The downsides are that it's features are a little limited by today's standards. There is no bluetooth option, TMC is ludicrously expensive to add, and there isn't much in the way of media options (ipod, USB etc)

Overall, for general navigation and as a fairly decent cd/radio unit then it's a good option. If you like your gadgets and toys then it might not be the best long term solution.
