Title: Mk2 courtesy lights / engine room light?
Post by: Judeford on September 18, 2013, 12:16:31 PM
Hi all,
I'm a newbie to the Forum and as I have a "new" Galaxy ('03 2.3 Trend, 7-seater) , I have come up with some questions, all answers appreciated.

So, is there an easy possibility to add courtesy lights to front/rear doors? How about footwell lights? And is there an option in trim level to have light under the bonnet?

Thanks.

Hi Judeford, and welcome to the forum!

The UK didn't get the "Trend" model so I'm not sure what that's equivalent of but I'm guessing a "Zetec" spec?

You can add all the lighting back in if you are handy with a soldering iron :) A fully loaded Galaxy will come with:

Front drivers and passengers footwell lights, one light at the bottom of each door, two middle row lights in the end of the tailgate cards (pointing forward) and two more lights up at the top of these panels right at the back. The door lights will replace the reflectors and the mounting squares should be in place for both the front foot-well lights. You'll probably have to take the tailgate cards off to cut out the holes for the lights if they aren't fitted. Then it's just a case of taking a supply and ground to all of them.

My 53 Zetec has the underbonnet
light lens but no actual light fitting.

You got a pic of that? I've never seen a UK car with one, or even know where it go's!

Are you sure it's a lens and not just the window in the middle of the trim to let you read the chassis number shaped on the bodyshell?

They all have that, the chassis number is stamped in the metal behind the lens.

I'm pretty sure mine has the chassis number behind it, but it couldn't be seen until after I cleaned the window and bodywork underneath while I was fixing the wiper mechanism.

Hi all,

And thanks for the comprehensive light listings :)
In Finland we had, as trim levels, the basic model (can't recall the naming, sorry) then was Trend and Ghia at the top.
By the way, does anybody has photos of the footwell lights (front+back) installed?

My main interest is to add the footwell lights and the door lights. Especially the rear doors are sooo wiiiide that the lights would be very useful. We have a quite long dark winter here up in the north...

This was left out from my posting... so I was wondering is there already wiring inside the rear door. I have the manual windows, so there is no electrical things inside the door...?

Highly unlikely the wiring will be in place, even if you had electric windows they rarely wire in more then they have to.
