Hello  welcome5

The book says 60.000 but when your buying secondhand would advise changing anyway using a kit (belt and idler/tensioner pulleys) unless you have a proper garage receipt with date and mileage not word of mouth.

Hard starting when hot maybe faulty coolant temperature sensor, scanning for fault codes will confirm.

Hi Greg

This is my interpretation from FordEtis site.

MK1 TDI

11-1994 to 03-2000 = 60.000 or 5 years

MK2 TDI (pd engine)

04-2000 to 05-2003 = 40.000 or 5 years Belt & Tensioner/Idlers

06-2003 to 03-2006 = 60.000 or 5 years Belt Only

     "             "            = 120.000 or 10 years Belt & Tensioner/Idlers
