I'm thinking about swapping to the vw sharan cluster if I can get one for the right price, this is the number i got from vagcom of my original ford one.
Part No: 7M5 920 940 Q
Mine is a 55 Reg 150bhp 2006 and with factory sat nav.
Anyone done this and what do I need to do?
Thanks
You need to match the spec and year closely but that's about it.
So you need a Sharan/Alhambra cluster from a 2005 car with a manual TDI engine. After that you should be fine, the nav display is handled by soft coding afterwards.
Thanks mirez
Just one other thing I've noticed some highline vw clusters have 2 more guages than the ford, one being the battery and the other some sort of temp guage.
Do these 2 guages require additional wiring up and what would i need to do
Mirez will know but he is away right now but I think I'm right in saying the alhambra has an engine oil temperature gauge and a battery voltmeter.
The oil sensor would be in the base of the sump but not normally fitted on the galaxy
Yup the Sharan and Alhambra "Highline" spec car's have a volt meter and an oil meter. The volt meter will work strait away but the oil temp meter will need fitted and wiring. A few X,Y and 51 plate cars had the sensor fitted but then it got removed (interestingly the sensor is only used by the instrument cluster and only the cluster fitted to Galaxy Ghia (Oil level warning) - Why it's fitted to the LX and Zetec is a mystery!)
Fitting is easy enough, you'll either need to replace the sump or drill out the hole (the mounting threads are already machined in) - I went for the latter as it's only alloy. Wiring is just three wires from the sensor into the cluster.
Thanks for that Chris and Mirez me thinks Iam going to get the drill out.....
