What was wrong with the old cluster and do you still have it?

You'll need vag-tacho to dump the eeprom from the old cluster and then you can flash it to the new cluster. Easy to do if you have the old cluster!

hi mirez you will read this right when i bought it there was 3 beeps when ignition turned on.. no computor display only the warning lights a local auto elec looked at it  and said clocks were faulty so we took them out to get part no ..the ribben had been cut with a stanley blade by the look of it the air bag led was smashed we sourced a cluster from a scrap yard supposedly out of exsactly the same model only difference last letter now we know it was an automatic all displays work including computer 1st beep airbag fault  2nd beep brake pad fault .3rd beep service now  but car will only go 60mph hence is it possible to swap memory i suppose my original clock 97000 other clock 126k not bothered about milage regards dave

Will just say that Vag Tacho is a different lead and software for working with the cluster.

Yup you will need a vag-tacho cable and software to do this. It's actually fairly simple providing you do some basic checks firsts.

1)Make sure you are using a laptop with a decent battery, put it on the mains to be safe.
2)Connect up the old cluster, get the program to read that EEPROM and save the resulting .EEP file.
3)Connect up your new cluster, get the program to read that EEPROM and again save it to be safe.
4)Write the old clusters .EEP file to the new cluster.

The process of reading and writing should take about 5 minutes in total plus however long it takes you to swap the clusters about.  You'll basically make a carbon copy of the old cluster's memory so you'll have all the options you used to have plus the original mileage but on your new cluster instead. If there was something else underlying with the old cluster then you have the new clusters .EEP file to overwrite and put it back. I've done many now so if you want any further help then no problem!
