can anybody help i my car seems to be leaking a little oil from around the turbo area.
the turbo works fine with no problems anbody have any idears
thanks
Hello and [W4]
You need to be sure where the oil is coming from, it may be that oil is leaking from the cam cover and/or breather pipe and running down onto the turbo.
There is an oil feed and return pipe which could also be the cause.
A worn EGR valve can also make a mess although it's not directly above the turbo it could find it's way down there.
You will need to raise the car and remove the undercover to get a better view.
Hi it's had new egr and a new cam cover seal witch pipe is breather pipe there's a big pipe and there is one smaller from cam cover
The breather pipe is the smaller hose (S shaped) from the cam cover that fits onto the air inlet tube which in turn fits on to the turbo.
Can oil leak from that? Also does the big black hose that goes into the turbo can that leak as the is oil around the base where it joins cheers
The small hose is only a push on fit so it is possible, the air inlet tube where it fits to the turbo has an O ring seal.
You may need to degrease the area so you can pinpoint the leak easier.
Ok al have a look Where is the O ring situated cheers
O ring is inside the inlet tube bolted to the turbo
Ok it seems oil around that area will have a look get back to u soon cheers
Do them rings go on them. As the big tube is like metal or aluminium
This is the under I have removed the big pipe with the O ring and also the oil flexi pipe seen in pic as u can see there is oil around it near the bolts. The O ring is in the pipe still and also the oil flex pipe has a gasket type is it best to replace both?
This is the pipe with the O ring before I took it off
Looking at your photo's and the amount of oil mess I strongly recommend you clean the area first as it's not possible to see where it's coming from.
With that amount of oil leakage you need to check the oil supply pipe to the turbo? it's located on the top of the turbo directly opposite the flexible return pipe in the lower picture.
Note this pipe is difficult to see from below and is best tackled from above.
Have a look at the first pic in the link below it show where the pipe connects

Thanks for that. Do they normally leak the inlet oil pipes? Where does it connect to at the other end?
It's not usual for the pipe to work loose but if the turbo has been removed in the past the pipe may have been damaged.
When undoing the pipe nut the nut union on the turbo needs to be held firm with a modified 17mm spanner otherwise the pipe will be twisted and break off or fracture.
You said in your first post the engine was running fine? is it with full power and no smoke from exhaust.
The other end of the pipe connects to the right hand side of the oil filter housing and has some support clamps to stop vibration.
Yer was fine no leaks or anything. I have just rang fords and they have a new set of seals for the oil drain pipe and the O ring and also the oil feed pipe has like a washer seal on both ends. All for Ã,£10. So will have to get them and see what happens. It only leaks when you turn engin off I think. Not sure about. When it's driving. But can't run engine at the mo because it has no gear box on it waiting for new clutch to arrive.
Oh well hopefully that's all it is then, and I did wonder why you had the driveshaft removed.
Lol av just bought the new drainage gasket and the ORing so will see if that's the problem
Where do I find the oil top up on the gearbox lol
Half way up the front, it's a star shaped security bolt and you'll need a "special tool" to remove it. With the vehicle on the level, it's full when it dribbles out.
Will a star socket fit it or do you have to buy a proper tool
If you have one big enough in "security" form. IIRC its a M16
I have just put a new duel mass flywheel and clutch on it started it up. Sounds like something grinding am not sure if its the thin plate between the gearbox and engine. Is this poss if slightly bent??

Sorry they don't give you a very good impression of where they are
Oil new (yellow) and old (black)

from when I changed mine the other week. The flexi tubes on the bottles were perfect for filling as you could push them through the fill hole and then tip/squeeze the bottle.
where the best place to get the oil from or can i use general gear/transmission oil??
regards
I got this from ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=251309708142 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=251309708142)
because it met the spec listed on one of the Shalaxy sites
