Title: Odd starting
Post by: Tezerez on July 09, 2013, 02:36:45 PM
Not looking for a fix for this one, but it is so odd, I thought I would put it out there for your observations.
My 2003 Tdi 130 starts well summer and winter, but as soon as I put the blower on to speed 2, it needs two goes to start.
Starts first punch on speed 1 or 3. Only found out during recent hot weather when put fan up a bit and it did what it did last summer. Found out by process of elimination its just on speed 2.
My Galaxy is a working vehicle, stop start deliveries. still manages 35mpg doing this. Great car, 118K, runs like a dream, air-con nice and cold, just getting a bit scabby round the sills and wheelarches.
Over to you Guys.............. I can cure the symptom by not leaving fan on speed 2, but I am puzzled! ???

How weird!! When it won't start, what's the LED doing and will it just crank but not start or something else?

No, the 35mpg is whilst carrying heavy loads, door to door, in city centre heavy traffic (Leeds). Does about 45mpg normally.
Haven't really looked at led when it won't start, as it starts 2nd punch. Just cranks without firing.
Shouldnt have said it was running well, got flashing glow plug light today. Vcd lite identified brake light switch, even tho brake lights were still working. Swapped switch 4 pin type, now all ok.
