Title: kickdown
Post by: magnus-barelegs on July 03, 2013, 07:36:24 PM

hi. I'm having problems with my auto gearbox (I think) when I'm driving along and put my foot down or when going uphill my Galaxy goes very sluggish with no kickdown but when I stop switch off then start her again she's fine this doesn't always happen but is intermittent can anyone throw a light on this as it drives me nuts, I have given it a good Italian tune and it seemed OK for a short while

Sounds very much like a boost issue, this could be confirmed by scanning engine module for for codes, an overboost issue is most likely to be sticking turbo vanes.

You can try working the arm on the turbo to physically feel if it is sticking.

Giving the car the Italian tune up should be a regular occurrence to avoid limp mode, if you do regular short journeys you may need to use a turbo cleaner like Innotec although this does require some mechanical intervention or remove the turbo and clean out manually.

has anyone done the turbo cleaning procedure using one of the propriety cleaners and is it possible for a non mechanically minded retired coachbuilder with arthritis to attempt ;D or should I just go and get ripped off at the garage ::) >:( :(

Innotec requires a blanking plate fitted temporarily this requires removing exhaust downpipe.
So jacking the car and undercover removal first then the rusty exhaust nuts.
