My galaxy Ghia 2008 has developed a strange hissing noise when I turn to the right. My neighbour thought there is something major wrong with the power steering. When you turn the wheels full lock to the left and then try and turn full lock to the right the steering is very heavy and difficult for me to turn (you guessed it, I'm a woman!). No error message. Steering is fine normally just experience the problem for example trying to do 3 point turn. Any advice would be much appreciated. Also any idea on cost I will need to use a an non ford garage as I'm a pensioner.
I had this problem on my 04 1.9 TDI zetec. The hissing developed into a lot of vibration, knocking and engine labouring at full lock on both sides. It was wrongly diagnosed a number of times as being the belt and belt tensioner. It was finally correctly diagnosed as being a worn freewheel clutch on the alternator pulley, but only when the pulley finally fell off! Replacement alternator pulley parts cost about Ã,£60 and about an hours labour.
