Petrol engines have a timing chain
Tdci have a timing belt
on some smax's tdci you may have a service required message that shows up which may point to the diesel particulate filter (DPF) needing to be regenerated,
IE a good thrashing to burn off the crud that accumulates, this is caused by too many short journeys and not getting up to the required temperature.
