The kids have broken the back door handle (outside) and the child locks are on.
Is there anyway to get the door open so I can replace the broken door handle.
Is this a common fault on the mk2 galaxy as the front one went too and I had to buy a whole door from the scrappy as they wouldnt just do the handle?
It's certainly not common to me, In what way is it broken? Attached? Won't pull? Pull's but won't unlatch? There is no easy way that I can think of. I'd try removing the glass rubber and then using a small metal bar to try and lever it from above. Failing that you may have to drill it out but that'll be real tricky without damaging the door :(
Ohh and WTF? If they won't do just the handle tell them to F off and go find someone that will! There are always handle's on ebay :)
I think its the white plastic hook thingy that activates the latch. The handle pulls out ok but nothing happens. This is the same as on the front.
As for the scrappy, only one I could find on e-bay was a tenner plus postage and was a chrome one. I needed it for the mot double quick time. The scrappy only wanted 15Ã,£ for the whole door so it wasnt a lot more than e-bay and I also have a spare set of door electrics etc.
Now if I could only find the source of the water ingress into drivers footwell I would be a happy man(Done everything apart from remove the whole dash).
Ahhh fair play - Ã,£15's really cheap, my local scrappy would want at least Ã,£80!
I'm wondering if itt's possible to separate the handle - pull it out and look to see if you can access the roll pin that holds it together. If you can pop that out then the grab piece of the handle would come away and you should be able to get something in the hole to pull the latch.
can you not remove the door card and gain access to the gubbins from there??or do you mean the rear hatch door?
I am fairly sure I need to have the door open to remove the door card. I will have a good look when I finish work this evening.
I have a horrible feeling I might have to sacrifice the back door and pick up another one from scrappy.I know they have 3 mk2's and none of them the right colour! (This will be the last resort, I will try everything else first.)
Might be cheaper to trash the back door card and replace that than to replace the back door?
You'll probably have to trash the card anyway in order to get the door off.
Probably too late and may be absolutely 1) wrong 2) useless even if right but I'm wondering if this might also be caused by a wiring fault?
Can you hear the lock cycling?
Had something similar which came and went on my pass. front door (the key operated lock died, then door wouldn't unlock/open, then next day noise of bit falling inside door, then locked unlocked again on interior handle/cent lock and opening as normal.
VCDS reported something like short to +ve. I think possibly the mechanical lock falling apart dropped something that stopped the elec. working, and when that part finished falling to the bottom of the door the elec locking started working ok again. All speculation and probably total bs cause I never had it apart afterwards but...
Be interested to know how you got it open in the end...
For the record, this may be solved by doing the following things (takes less than 1h the second time :)):
1) Remove door card: https://www.fordmpv.com/smf2/ford-galaxy-reference-library/galaxy-mk2-door-card-removal/msg82/#msg82
2) Stick in your fingers and you will find a latch that by pushing it outwards will do the same as if the door handle was pulled.
Prob a bit late now, but might help others searching for same issue..
The mk1 has a wire (brown/white I recall) at the base of the b-pillar/beside the driver seat under the sill trim that pops the boot.
I linked this up to a remote locking kit on my dad's old galaxy when his remote ford key went a bit mad, and there was an issue with the tailgate handle not firing the release motor.
