Title: Upgrading trailer tyres
Post by: SirDavidAlhambra on July 09, 2023, 03:16:37 PM
Hi guys! I have a little hobby trailer with 8 inch tyres. Can I safely change them to 10 inch wheels? I figure that would give a smoother ride and was also result in less wear and tear on the bearings and so on?

Thank You

A lot depends on the suspension fitted and wheel location
If the wheels are within the width of the box, you need to check that with a full load, the wheels will not be trapped by the descent of the body ( ran into problems with a Renault Kangoo with that!
If the wheels sit outside of the box, check the fully loaded condition in relation to the mudguard/wheelarch.
Bigger wheels will probably weigh more, so bearing wear could be worse rather than better.

Thank you, it sounds like the wisest course of action may be to stick with the wheel size the trailer came with.

The suspension is full track rubber torsion independent axle suspension. It is an Erde 122 trailer.
