Hi
My daughters 05 galaxy is really testing my patience I have had about 5 days trying to sort the front heater & bleed system
Firstly it had new water pump fit as the old one sheard the impeller it was a friend who done it and he said he couldn't get it bled up but it was sitting at a constant 90 degrees while down motorway 70-80mph and driving through traffic when I got home pipes were under pressure and heater was stone cold , I was thinking head gasket so took it to another friend who done sniff test which never changed colour, rechecked stat that had a crack in it so we cut the 2 sides off so there's no restriction and sent rad away to get flow tested checked pipes & the plastic bit in return pipe Put it back together & topped up system slowly squashing pipes etc while engine running trying to get air out, top back on revving quite hard pressure build up in pipes after 10 mins or so tried another sniff test still no colour change
Brought it home and tried again to bleed it I have the heaters quite hot now all the time, temp under 90 fan kicking in when temp goes up but still pressure build up
Run on pump is working and you can feel water running when ignition is on
Also I was wondering if anyone has a Mk 2 n/s tail light for sale
Any help would be greatly appreciated
David
How much pressure are we talking? The supply hose is normally quite stiff when its warm.
When the pump originally failed how was this noticed and how long was it run for?
In my experience sniff tests can be inconclusive.
In normal circumstances any air in the system caused by draining the system will be bled out through the restricted return hose to the bottle.
Running the engine from cold with the cap removed does the water level rise in the bottle?
as it certainly sounds like gasket failure.
Hi
Firstly i dont think I'll never get the truth about what happened but what I was told is that they were coming home down the motorway and it started overheating they pulled over to cool down then they broke down not far from home I towed it home it would have done approx 20 mile max, i started it the next day, it was running with what sounded like a misfire but dual mass fly wheel was chattering away as well , changed clutch to solid clutch done water pump & stat
It starts & runs perfect apart from pressure in cooling pipes they get quite hard but even when it's cooled down the pressure is still there
When I start it from cold with res cap off yes the water does rise
It feels like there's no water in top rad pipe but can feel it flowing through heater matrix pipes etc
I myself am not that confident with the sniff test either
Thanks for your replies
Pressure still in the system when cold.
Rising water level all sound like classic HG failure. :(
Make sure the head is checked for warp as it will most certainly need skimming
