Title: reverse lights

Hi all,  I would like to pick your brains here,  I have a galaxy mk 1 20l petrol 1996. The problems is I put it in reverse the rear lights don't come on only if I hold the gear stick back they come on. Is the switch adjustable or is it knackered,  any ideas would be appreciated Thanks :'(

Fairly sure the Galaxy switch is a standard VW one - so no adjustment, just unscrew and replace.
