Title: tailgate "ajar" switch
Post by: David Sinnock on April 15, 2013, 07:53:44 PM
Hi Guy's

Can any tell me if there is a tailgate "ajar" switch on the MK1 Galaxy, as I have read some where that this will dis-able the rear window wiper and wash. I've looked but cant seem to find one !!!!!

MOT due in 5 weeks and this now forms part of New MOT Reg's[/b] that came in to force March 2013 so hence need to get rear wiper and wash working.

Thank you all

Me again

Update on what I have done so far.

I have checked all fuses and all are good.

I have checked wiring via boot, removed rubber boot protection and some cables had cracked, repaired those.

I removed a good working wiper motor from my other car and connected it to the wiring plug of existing wiper motor, turned on ignition and still no joy. I did close the tail gate and repeated but still not working.

Next operation will be to strip the switch on the steering wheel tomorrow evening.

Thanks Guy's

still think you need to take a closer look at the wiring in your hatch, just in case you missed some?

Its integrated into the lock assembly - you should be able to see its status in vcds.

Have you measured voltages and grounds at the motor? If yes, have you measured them back at the connection in the D pillar?

Thanks Guy's

I will re-check wiring in hatch before I strip the switch tomorrow evening and also I wasn't aware of a  connection in the D pillar, will strip back and check that first.

I have not yet checked voltages at plug, I should have thought of that on my own being an ex-sparky lol

Thanks again guy's ;)

Hi Guy's Just update on what I've done

Stripped out side panel, removed seat belt etc to find connectors (over three evening after work) and wired from there to wiper motor, nothing working :(

so now swapped everything except the relay's or the switch.

To get the relays in my other scrap car I would have to strip the dashboard out as they are behind the fuse carrier, so went for easy option and took the switch assembly out (just five screws) and tried that.

Hey presto rear wiper and wash now fully working :) :) :)

Just got to put the rear of the car back together now

Thanks for all your suggestions :)

Thanks again Guy's all put back together now, just a few cosmetic items left to do, mud flaps, change wing mirrors, and give it a real good clean inside. ;D
