MOT due soon
I whipped of the Front O/S tyre to weld up a hole in the outrigger
and while I was at it decided to put soapy water on the rim and valve
to see where/if my newish tyres were losing pressure.
It been annoying to see them lose significant pressure
over a week or two
Tip to self: don't make the water too soapy as the bubbles persist and make it hard
to tell leaks from bubbles
Anyway
the thing the valve screws into seems to be the major culprit
as you can see in the pic
I was going to take socket to it, whip out, clean it up, locktite it etc
and refit
but thought "Hang on, what if there's a nut inside the wheel holding it?
I may be up you know where if I mess with it"
I searched for pics on google and it looks like a tyre pressure sensor
but if I have tyre pressure sensors no one told me!
Moneys an issue so I'd really like a cheap diy solution if possible
I have GOOP in my motorbike tyres, would it help here ?
As I have a bottle to hand I'm tempted to bung it in and hope for the best

I wouldn't bother trying to fix that tyre valve yourself. Just take it to your nearest tyre shop and they'll probably put a new valve on it for free. Or they might charge you a tenner. Either way it won't be much and it will be a heck of a lot easier than sorting it yourself. They have al the right glues and new values ready to hand etc.

If you haven't got tyre monitoring you may get away with an ordinary valve but corrosion/erosion has got in there and will make it difficult to get a permanent seal, looks like it's leaking around the bead also, but until the tyre and valve is removed you won't know.
worst case is having the rim refurbished and that's not cheap, last one I had done was just on the £100 mark.
Sometimes I think they can just sand it down and splodge loads of that strong tyre glue over it

just bunged some goop in and kept turning the wheel around and over to try and distribute it
so it might get to the leaky bits.
If the wheel is badly corroded I'm peed off, the tyre place who fitted 4new tyres not long ago
didn't mention it.
The place who do my bike tyres are very good at this sort of thing and will try to buff out any
corrosion as part of the service and a bung a load of jollop around the rim to get a good seal.

But do just make sure it's all safe. Thrift is excellent, but never compromise on your safety, you cannot ever put too high a value on that.

Had my bmw 19's refurbed for £40 a corner a year or so back

I've just had 4 refurbed for £210 and they were 20", tbh though if they are just regular wheels then I'd keep an eye out for another set of wheels as second hand prices for wheels have dropped right off these days. You'll get a set for less then £250 with tyres, and then be able to sell yours on.

The Goop seem to have done the trick.
I just checked the FOS tyre and it's within a pound or so from last time I checked it
a week or two ago
