Title: Parking sensors
Post by: SirDavidAlhambra on March 14, 2022, 06:41:29 PM
Today I replaced my rear parking sensors. Three of them in total. One was new but I got it from eBay and it failed after 9 months and the other 2 were original but had stopped working. Hmm, most confuddling. But I got some new ones from Amazon and it works perfectly now.

Top tip: a wheelie bin is ideal for testing the sensors out (range using VCDS) and so you can hear the beeping or get back to the laptop if it is in the front seat.

Next tip: open the boot door so you can hear the beeping better.

Third tip: bend the connector back and then the plug slides out. It is fiddly but some 3 in 1 oil helps.

Fourth tip: coat the hole in the bumper with 3 in 1 oil if it's a bit hard to push them back in.

Fifth tip: use the blunt end of a screwdriver handle to push the sensors out while you hold the clips open. If you push it using your thumb you're likely to rip your thumbnail off. Yowser!

Final tip: use some nice electrical contact cleaner in the contacts to keep them nice and effective.

Also ever use a pressure washer on them.
