So as it goes, I'm after a tow bar!
Not fussed on new or second hand & I'll be fitting it myself so it'll save a few bob!
Some of the places are absolutely mentally priced for them, so wondering if anyone may have a 'layabout' or one they don't use anymore, etc., or even a good place to buy one!
Cheers!
I would suggest trying good old eBay too. I've always wondered why tow bars are so expensive!
They seem to have gone up, the last new one I brought was around £70 off ebay, I'm seeing used ones there where they want that much. It may be worth phoning round any of the local breakers to see if you can pick one up, as you wouldn't have the shipping to deal with then (which is going to be a fair chunk of the cost given its heavy)
Not my listing but this one's £50. > Ebay Link (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/154741343976?epid=6002609442&hash=item24074d86e8%3Ag%3AoiAAAOSwov5hsnUz&LH_ItemCondition=3000)
Galaxy, Sharan and Alhambra are all going to be the same up to 2006.
I'd second the local breakers though, there are two Mk2's in my local both with tow bars!
I'd seen that one earlier as well, but by the time its either shipped (£40 on top) or picked up from the North East (which would likely be more expensive still unless it could be combined with another trip) it seemed like a non-starter. If you could find a listing like that closer to home thats probabbly about as good as your going to get. Unfortunatly the only breaker I know dealing in Galaxys is down in Essex so not much help to someone at the other end of the country.
Brian if they send it via MyHermes (very convenient) then even if it weighed 15Kg it would only cost £9.50 for next day delivery
Could you ask the seller to send it that way maybe.
Thank you
It looks like it could do with a lick of Hammerite by the way
I share the same project! I bought a second hand original towbar from a 2002 2.0 petrol Galaxy from the scrapyard. Be aware that the rear bumper support frame has a different part number on cars with towbar. So I bought it together with the towbar. Just need to grind the surface rust of and give it a good layer of paint.
How do you make sure the rust doesn't come back please
Wire brush to clean metal and decent paint covering, you could rust treat prior to paint but for a tow bar I wouldn't be getting that keen if it was me
Sounds very practical, I imagine hammerite paint would be best?
Thank you
