Title: Replacing/repairing/removing 2.0PD throttle body advice
Post by: KingyMAK on January 16, 2022, 04:51:52 PM
What's it's access like, as I'm assuming like the EGR & turbo, it's an absolute pig to get at like everything else on these engines?

Its one of the hardest jobs you'll ever have to...

...because the PD hasn't got one :D
Most diesels don't have throttle bodies, it's controlled purely by injection.

Inlet manifold flap then.
A 'technically not a throttle body' part then.

I'm not trying to be funny Mark, I genuinely don't know which bit you are referring to. You have the EGR assembly and that's bolted strait into the inlet manifold. Before that its just duct work back to the turbo or at least that's how it is on all the 1.9 PD's I've come across.

The 2.0 has some extra stuff but I don't recall seeing anything else in that area.

Sorry mate, didn't mean to sound arsey, had a horrific few days and this car being a sod is the last I need right now!

Number 4 in the image I've uploaded.

It's the throttle valve control element, part number 038128063

No worries bud and sorry to hear that. Well that's a new setup on me however it looks suspiciously that to make the space for it, they've pushed the EGR into the intake manifold and replaced that assembly with this inlet flap so theoretically it should be as easy as the EGR assembly on the older ones which wasn't that bad.

Had to look it up as curiosity got the best of me and it doesn't seem to do much other then to reduce shudder when the engines turned off. Whats the issue you have?

In fact that looks like exactly what they've done, the mounting points on this valve are the same as the EGR, the overall width of the intake manifold doesn't look to have changed and the intake pipe is the same part number as before so it really should be as easy as uncoupling the intake pipe and then just unbolting the three bolts holding it in.

That just unbolts the same as the egr valve rod on old 1.9 engines if I recall correctly. It's an anti shudder valve for smooth shut down but also used during dpf regeneration and egr operation.
