Title: ABS starting to play up....
Post by: MrBen on July 24, 2021, 05:58:55 PM
Hello all. My ABS seems to be coming on regular when pressing brake, especially 1st thing in morning, and when going slow, so of course putting the ABS light on the dash. I'm going to have the wheels off and find the sensors and attempt to clean them. Would brake and clutch cleaner be ok for this? Also anyone had this problem before? Thanks all.

Hmm, Iââ,¬â,,¢d be inclined to scan it for codes then just switch the abs sensor for a new one.

If its covered in gunge then it might be worth trying to clean it before replacing but Iââ,¬â,,¢d be inclined to not use brake cleaning fluid.

The sensor rings can break so you get an uneven gap, this can upset the abs. You'd be best advised to scan with codes using vcds so you know which wheel your looking at though. assuming it is the wheel sensor at fault of course (which the scan will tell you)

Brake cleaner should be fine for cleaning the sensor and ring if needed. Rings are available if required as well rather than replacing the cv joint, but you might need to search online for them (ebay i think?)
