Title: How to replace rear parking sensor
Post by: SirDavidAlhambra on July 23, 2021, 03:05:47 PM
Hi everyone!

How do I replace a rear parking sensor please?

Does it twist and pull out or something like that?

It's the one in the rear corner if that makes a difference.

Thank you.

Gently ease the tabs out away from sensor body while pushing sensor out. I find easier to use one hand to move retaining tabs while while gently pushing in front of the sensor

Don't twist it, you will pull the fixing bit off the bumper trim if you do (its got a slot and matching ridge on the sensor).

Thank you both so much.

It sounds like it should be a simple task of unclipping and pulling it out.

In practice though, is it the sort of thing that should take 30 seconds but actually ends up taking 5 hours with lots of screaming, broken bits of plastic, and frustration?

Any tips for doing the job on the driveway (I donââ,¬â,,¢t have a ramp/vehicle lifter machine like they have in the garages).

Thank you

If your careful it shouldn't take long. worst case is if you pull the plastic holder off, that you will need to stick it back on. mine came off but looked like someone had tried to glue it back in previously (badly).

Hi friends, well my new parking sensor arrived from the Far East today and switching it over was a piece of cake.

The reversing sensor now works perfectly again!

Using the VCDS Lite computer system helped me to find which sensor was at fault and replace it quickly and easily. The VCDS Lite system seems quite old fashioned (fiddly to get the drives for the cable and map it to a serial port) but it did the job very nicely!

Thank You all again for your kind and helpful advice.
