70,000 miles service time. This (registration starts with E) was a Ford lease hire vehicle for its first three years, that the hirer apparently kept for another three. All the stamps in the book are Ford main dealers, except for the garage we bought it from. I expected that they would have only changed the oil, filter and air filter and given it a look over.
As the local Ford dealer has closed, I took it to a small enterprise that does good to excellent work. Oil and filter, Fuel, air and pollen filters, brake fluid change and a proper look round.
Fuel filter was jet black and loaded. Pollen filter had clearly _never_ been changed. Neither had the brake fluid. It runs noticably better, now.
I can't even be surprised any more, never mind angry.
Depressing isn't it? When we bought our 3yr old Galaxy it had a full main dealer service history with the pollen filter being ticked as changed 3 times - suffice to say the service manager got a rough ride from me when I walked into his office with the pollen filter off the car that was stamped with the original 2003 date code.
Since then I've always serviced my own vehicles. :o
Sometimes garages donââ,¬â,,¢t even bother changing the oil during the service, they just park the car in the garage then give it back to you a few hours later with a bill
I always service the car myself now
Some unscrupulous people give all mechanics a bad name,my days in the trade I never said I changed something when I didnââ,¬â,,¢t neither did I make up jobs on cars. I remember vauxhall came out with a campaign on Astra f due to brake fluid res cap seals allowing excessive moisture in. It was genuinely an issue but they wanted while car going over to upswell workââ,¬Â¦ I used to do the check on brake fluid measuring boiling point and either just change cap if fluid was good or do fluid and cap. I never tried to upswell work unless there was something safety related wrong and then I would just advise customer of the problem. Dealers wanted us to find quick and easy hits to make money.Maybe having a some morals is the reason I ultimately sought employment outside the trade??
