Title: Now.... an oil leak.
Post by: Russats on April 11, 2021, 10:57:49 AM
Jeez!! This car!!

Oil is leaking, I think itââ,¬â,,¢s from the cam position sensor. Can anyone advise otherwise please? [attachimg=1][attachimg=2]

Looks fine to me, I wouldnââ,¬â,,¢t worry about it myself but then I donââ,¬â,,¢t really know if this is significant or not. The wiser more experienced car experts on here will be able to discern a more informed opinion.

A wise man once said to me, fear not the engine oil leaks as long as theyââ,¬â,,¢re not too bad as it stops stuff from rusting. Add a dash of oil every few months and it should stay in tip top condition.

Looks like you cleaned it off a bit are you sure it's leaking from the sensor?, the crank sensor does have an O ring to seal it but as it's quite close to the crank pulley it may be the crank pulley seal leaking.
Of course it may be something above leaking and running down.

Definitely leaking further up.
Only leaks while itââ,¬â,,¢s running also.

I think itââ,¬â,,¢s leaking from here..... [attachimg=1]

Much further up beyond the crank sensor.

I donââ,¬â,,¢t really understand much about these parts of the engine unit, but could you just tighten the bolts up a bit? Might help?

Tried that..... it still leaks.

So frustrating that you canââ,¬â,,¢t see from the top end.

I would give it a real good clean off so thereââ,¬â,,¢s no oil splattered everywhere then you stand better chance of locating the source.

Yes, a dam good wipe down and then it will be easier to spot where the oil might be coming from

I know itââ,¬â,,¢s coming from that part with the 2 small bolts, but I donââ,¬â,,¢t know where itââ,¬â,,¢s running from to get on that.

Praying itââ,¬â,,¢s not the cam seal.

Is that the cambelt cover? If so can it be taken off easily to have a look inside

Are you 100% its oil and not diesel? I'm struggling a little to work out where we are from those photos but it looks like its on the near side of the block, under the HPFP hence I wouldn't rule out a diesel leak!

Itââ,¬â,,¢s on the off side, Iââ,¬â,,¢ve worked out that the silver part, it has a small hex bolt, thatââ,¬â,,¢s the water pump drain. Itââ,¬â,,¢s coming over the top, and down the back of the water pump.

Itââ,¬â,,¢s going to a french engine specialist weds.

Crankshaft seal was where the leak was. They will also be replacing the cambelt as thatââ,¬â,,¢s saturated in oil. Ã,£600 bill incoming.

At least itââ,¬â,,¢s been caught before the belt failed.

Ã,£600 seems like quite a lot of money for a job which doesnââ,¬â,,¢t sound too difficult... does this also include other work being done please

I stand corrected, it was the camshaft seal leaking, crankshaft seal also changed, as it looked at bit rough.
