Hi, my 2003 1.9 TDI has only covered 1300 miles in the last year & last fuelled up 4 months ago. It failed the MOT yesterday on emmissins, but not badly. I will change the air filter today (15000 miles). Would the old fuel be a factor? I've topped up with 27 litres up super diesel & will take it for a 70mph drive today. Is there anything else I should be doing? Thanks, Peter.
Not sure. Maybe just give it a bit of a thrashing to clear any gunk out. Make sure it's nicely warmed up before it gets taken in for the test.
I wonder if you could put in wome of that Wynns emission test additive too? I think they do a guarantee where they refund the money if the car doesn't pass?

Disconnect the MAF for the test and reconnect when itââ,¬â,,¢s passed emissions. You wonââ,¬â,,¢t get any fault lights on a vw PD engine

The air filter was quite dis coloured underneath, with the corrugated paper above looking clean. Whether it was restricting air flow, I don't know, but maybe enough to get the car through now.
Also, it is perishing cold at the moment & the MOT centre is only 2 miles away, so I think that the car may not have been fully warmed up. I'll take it for a 12 mile blat on the M11 before the re test on Friday.
I don't have time to use additive this year, but I will run a tank with it the month before MOT in future!
I'm not sure what difference disconnecting the MAF would make to the emmissions coming out of the zorst?

Itââ,¬â,,¢s probably a combination of lack of use and not fully up to temp, disconnecting the MAF makes the ECU run at a a pre programmed figure for incoming air essentially. It will get the emissions down to pass levels.
