Title: Offside rear door won't unlock
Post by: Col on March 15, 2013, 06:12:06 PM
The rear offside door on my MkI won't unlock with either the remote or manually. Any ideas?

1st thing to check would be the wiring in the door gaitor.

You'll have to force the door card off though if its locked and won't unlock as unfortunately there is no other way :(

Thank you for the replies. I have managed to get the door card off but still can't get the door open. The motor is working but not releasing the door. I have applied direct power to the motor but still no luck. Any suggestions would be very welcome. Sorry for the delay with my thanks but I work away and this is the first opportunity I have had to actually look at the door!

No worries, it sounds like the deadlock motor is still engaged and you are operating the central locking one. What colour wires has the motor you applied voltage to got going to it?

The wires are yellow, brown, yellow/blue, green/blue x2. I applied power to the yellow and brown and the motor turned but did not unlock.

Well the wiring diagrams a little secretive about what wires connected to what but you basically have:

Lock
Unlock
Dead Lock Engage
Dead Lock Disengage
Ground

All of the circuits appear to be protected so it should be a case of applying 12V in turn (except ground obviously) whilst listening to hear if the motors engaging or disengaging. Once you've got both motors in the unlocked position the door should open...

Managed to unlock the door from the inside. All the wires were fine and I had to remove the central locking solenoid and managed to get to the lock. It looks like there is a problem with the actual lock. Managed to lock the door so I am going to look for a new lock and just to be safe a new central locking solenoid. Thank you for your help.
